Who Is the McCall Music Society

We are a group of music lovers who work to bring local, regional
and international music to the community. We welcome everyone to join McCall
Music Society.
Since
1984, the McCall Music Society has been bringing quality music to Idaho’s
Heartland. While classical music is our main focus, we also provide a venue for
other musical forms such as jazz, fusion and cross-over.
Bringing National and Regional Talent to McCall
Concerts in recent years have included the St.
Petersburg Trio, the Modern Mandolin Quartet, the Cassatt
Quartet, the San Francisco Saxophone Quartet, the Aulos Ensemble and the Audubon
Quartet. The Society also initiated and produced the popular SummerFest series
of concerts, featuring a fifty piece orchestra and jazz under the stars with
Gene Harris and his trio.
Providing a Performance Venue for Local Talent
The McCall Chamber
Orchestra, the McCall Chorale and various chamber music ensembles have for over
twenty years provided musical entertainment to McCall and in outreach concerts
in Cascade, Riggins, Grangeville and Council. This serves our community in two
ways: local musicians get many hours of musical pleasure from rehearsing and
performing together, and the community audiences get to enjoy. and often be
amazed by, the quality concerts that are offered in early May and other times of
the year.
Scholarships
Local young musicians can apply for musical scholarships from the Scholarship
Endowment Fund. MMS board members review the applications and annually present
awards to qualifying young musicians allowing them attend summer music camps, to
purchase or repair instruments, or take music lessons.
Continental Harmony Millennium Project
In 2000, the McCall Music Society was the lead organization in the consortium of
local arts organizations in winning the honor to be Idaho’s site for the
national music initiative, Continental Harmony. Over the Fourth of July holiday
in celebration of the millennium, McCall joined 57 other venues across our
nation in presenting a new work of music composed especially for each site. An
interactive web site (www.pbs.org/harmony) on the project is currently
maintained by PBS, and a documentary is available.
